Curtis Jones scored the decisive goal as Liverpool edged out Chelsea 2-1 in an intense encounter at Anfield, reclaiming the Premier League top spot from Manchester City.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Levi Colwill fouled Jones in the box. However, Liverpool’s hopes for a second penalty were dashed when VAR overturned the referee’s initial decision.
Despite Chelsea dominating possession in the first half, Nicolas Jackson brought the visitors level just two minutes into the second period. But Liverpool quickly responded, with Jones scoring from a Salah assist to restore the lead.
The victory marks Liverpool’s 10th win in 11 matches under new manager Arne Slot, taking them to 21 points, one ahead of Manchester City. Chelsea’s seven-game unbeaten streak under Enzo Maresca came to an end, leaving them sixth in the table with 14 points.
