(RT) The British military reportedly holds a bleak outlook on the conflict in Ukraine, believing that Kiev is on the brink of defeat, according to a report from the Daily Express on Tuesday.
Over the past month, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has been promoting his “victory plan” to foreign leaders. He is expected to present it this week to Ukrainian lawmakers, the public, and the European Council. However, according to his adviser Mikhail Podoliak, the plan will not include specific figures on the military aid Ukraine is seeking from allied nations.
While the UK has publicly backed Ukraine’s hardline stance in the war, private assessments from senior military officials paint a different picture. Citing a military source, the Daily Express reported that British generals believe the situation is dire for Kiev.
“I spoke with a very senior British Army officer today,” the source said. “He told me Ukraine is on the verge of losing the war with Russia. It’s extremely serious.”
Zelensky has shared his “victory plan” with key Western leaders, beginning with U.S. President Joe Biden in late September and, more recently, with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The British leader emphasized the importance of maintaining steadfast support for Ukraine, stating, “It’s crucial that we demonstrate our ongoing commitment.”
Kiev has also been lobbying for approval to use British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles for long-range strikes inside Russia. According to reports, Zelensky’s plan heavily relies on lifting current restrictions on the use of Western-provided weapons.
The Ukrainian president intended to present his proposal at a donor conference in Germany last week. However, the event was postponed after Biden withdrew to address the aftermath of Hurricane Milton.
Meanwhile, Russia has made substantial progress on the battlefield in recent months, with particularly notable advances since August when Ukraine deployed some of its most experienced troops into the Kursk Region.
